Meet Rich

Rich and his wife, Melanie, live in Hudson with their daughter and are expecting their second daughter in May. For the last 15 years, Rich has gained valuable experience and insight in the education, health care, and related non-profit industries. With extensive management and problem solving skills, Rich is ready to focus his attention on the needs of the residents in the 42nd District.

After graduating from high school in Northeast Ohio, Rich continued his education at Kent State University, majoring in criminal justice with a minor in political science. As a student at Kent State, Rich had his first formal introduction to public administration when he was one of nine students elected to the Undergraduate Student Senate in 1991.

As the Academic Affairs Chair on Student Senate, Rich successfully influenced student policy on behalf of more than 25,000 college students. Many of the programs he initiated are still in existence today, including the Professor and Course Evaluation Book and Academic Achievement Card. Rich also led the effort for collegiate license plates in the early 1990’s by serving as a key university official on this project at the Statehouse.

Richard Nero and Family
Richard Nero graduation

Prior to graduation in1993, Rich decided to take his political ambitions to the next level and campaigned for an at-large city council position in Kent, Ohio. Although the endeavor ended in a loss, Rich cherished the pursuit and further ignited his passion for public service.

After graduating with his Bachelor of Arts in 1993, Rich was prepared to use his degree and political experiences as a stepping-stone for additional pursuits in public administration. However, Rich accepted a position with a non-profit organization, which redirected his interests and resulted in a successful 15-year career path that provided valuable experience in:

  • Healthcare, education and related not-for-profit industries
  • Project management and consensus building
  • Problem solving skills with a proven ability to develop and
manage complex business and government relationships

Although his career has continually kept him very close to the public sector, Rich is now ready to stand up and represent the citizens of the 42nd District. He views the State Representative seat as that of a public servant and is prepared to assess the current situation – and improve it – with an unbiased perspective due to never holding public office. His loyalties will always remain to the residents of the 42nd Ohio House District.

Together, with your support for Rich Nero, we can ensure our schools remain excellent and quality health care is accessible to all residents. We must focus on our continually shifting economy and ensure our District is competitive and successful.
